Trabzon, one of the first Anatolian cities to embrace Islam, adds a new chapter to its spiritual heritage with the Hanife Hatun Mosque and Complex. Known as the “City of Princes,” where Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered, Yavuz Sultan Selim governed, and Kanuni Sultan Süleyman was born, Trabzon is set to elevate its cultural and religious identity with this remarkable addition.
The mosque, whose foundation was laid in 2019 under the leadership of Erdoğan Bayraktar, a native of the region, is dedicated to the blessed memory of Hacı Hanife Bayraktar, the granddaughter of Hacı Ahmet Mollaalioğlu from Gürpınar Village in Of. Completed at the end of 2024, this sacred structure will not only meet the needs of the people of Trabzon but also serve as a center for knowledge and learning.
Located on a 26,085.09 square meter area allocated from a 182,000 square meter land owned by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, Hanife Hatun Mosque stands out with its worship and educational facilities. The main prayer area accommodates 7,700 people, while the total capacity, including outdoor courtyards, reaches 13,000.
Hanife Hatun Mosque and Complex is designed to host not only religious worship but also book fairs, exhibitions, and other cultural events. With these features, it is set to make significant contributions to the cultural and social life of Trabzon.
This valuable addition to Trabzon symbolizes the deep roots of Islam while meeting both spiritual and modern needs. Hanife Hatun Mosque will serve not only as a place of worship but also as an educational and cultural center for the people of Trabzon. Gratitude and prayers are extended to everyone who contributed to the realization of this sacred structure.
