Islam made its way to the fertile lands of Anatolia in the second half of the 7th century, following the conquests of Caliph Umar. The people of Trabzon were introduced to Islam at the beginning of the 8th century. During this period, the selfless efforts of the alperens, abdal, and dervishes who spread the belief in monotheism helped bring Islam to the Trabzon region. The domination of the Seljuk Turks in the 12th century deepened the roots of Islam, and eventually, with the conquest of Trabzon by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1461, the region became fully an Islamic land.
Trabzon is known as the "City of Princes," having been conquered by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, ruled by Sultan Selim the Grim, and the birthplace of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. One of the oldest port and trade cities of Anatolia, Trabzon has been home to many significant buildings such as mosques and madrasas, where spiritual and cultural heritage has flourished throughout history. In addition to its natural beauty, the city has hosted many valuable personalities who have left their mark on these lands, remaining deeply loyal to their homeland, nation, and flag.
This mosque and complex, a necessity for the people of Trabzon, was initiated in 2019 under the leadership of the region's son, ERDOĞAN BAYRAKTAR, and completed at the end of 2024. Dedicated to the blessed memory of HACI HANİFE BAYRAKTAR, the granddaughter of HACI AHMET MOLLAALIOĞLU from Gürpınar Village in Of, this sacred structure will elevate the spiritual identity of Trabzon and serve as a symbol of knowledge and wisdom.
